Saul Ronsayro: Goldmund and Narcissus (assigned reading 2)

This was a very dense reading but also extremely rich and enlightening in various ways. The text is a dialogue of a conversation between the two, which made it one of the more interesting reads I have done for this class. It starts by discussing what makes each person an individual, which I like to relate to our conversations in class, talking about how each person has their own transformative experiences. They are no one else's but your own. It makes you question what it means to be an individual. Is it just each distinction, or is there some more profound underlying factor? The other thing I found really interesting in this discussion was when Narcissus warned Goldmund against becoming a mystic, given the class is titled Hero and Mystics. He argued that logic is critically essential to understanding our world. While this is important, it leaves me wondering where curiosity lives, as thinking about things we don't know or don't find logical is crucial to learning.
