Sanai Williams: Camino Military Journey (Class reading)

I am not one who will ever be interested to join the military, as I have experienced what it can do to a person and a family. Upon reading the book and listening to my professors story about his journey, I've learned aspects my father has never even attempted to discuss. I did not know that the process of becoming a marine was so destructive to ones character. They break down who you are and rebuild you from that. It is a terrifying experience that can even become mental torture of yelling for hours. For my professor it was an experience, but he still did reckless acts like changing his ID age to drink. This checks out with what I've experienced. I thought the military creates people to be better, but marines is no bible camp. Its aggressive and violent which can leak into some's personality as well. My father became aggressive after his military bouts, and my friends who are currently in bootcamp seemingly have no change at all except pride because they feel stronger now that they have overcome the challenges. The military journey has different returns for everyone. Where some people become humble and more appreciative of life, others become aware that theirs means more than others.
