Sanai Williams: Are Monists the One? (Class reading)
Monists believe one thing: That we are all one. This believe is one of the highest metaphors for love in every day life. Kids nowadays will call someone they really like "twin" and sex can be described as becoming one with another person. The only thing about monists is that they do not believe just people are one, but everything is one. For example, I am the same as this bed I sit on, this computer I type on and the air I am breathing. For everything that exists is and everything that doesn't exist is not. The thing that doesn't exists is nothing. Naming nothing however does not make it something. This name pertains to the idea of something that is ultimately nothing. But everything that is not nothing is one. And I find this thought really sweet and comforting because often society seems so divided, but believing that I am no different from a pen or a dust bunny is an extension of my cosmic body oddly soothes my worries.
