Lucas Stopper: 7,000 miles (outside reading)
In my History class we are currently reading about the travels of a French friar in the 1250s who journeyed about 7,000 miles to Karakorum in modern-day Mongolia. I think this journey is incredible for many reasons. For starters, this friar began this journey because he wanted to convert the Mongols to Catholic Christianity, and he was actually sent by the King of France at the time to do so. Although I am not Catholic myself, I think that belief in your faith is very awe-inspiring. Secondly, this friar largely travelled barefoot and with almost no goods, as Franciscan friars take a vow of poverty when they become friars. Again, another inspiring part of his journey.
