Iris Denner: Childhood Toys (My Choosing)
In class, we talked about childhood stuffed animals and how we are all still attached to the womb. I have my fair share of stuffed animals that I still have. I will still buy stuffed animals for birthdays. Maybe this is my connection to childhood away from home. I have some childhood toys that I do not even remember but my parents have strong attachments to. They insist that I could not have been apart from a specific toy, but I do not remember that period of my life. Is there a time in which we become more detached from childhood and is this the time that we start forming consistent memories? Toys keep us entertained but they also provide emotional support in a changing world. They are a constant and when lost, it results in a meltdown for both children and adults. Toys are an external representation of the inner self.
