Grayson Plummer: Outside Reading- Journal Entry #15: Born to Run by Christopher McDougall

Throughout my marathon training I read different marathon books to help grasp a better understanding of running. One of the books I read was Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. The quote that I want to focus on for this blog entry is "Running unites our two most primal impulses: fear and pleasure. We run when we’re scared, we run when we’re ecstatic, we run away from our problems and run around for a good time". This quote sticks out to me because myself and a lot of people run for a multitude of reasons. I generally find myself running because of the day I've had, or to help de-stress. There's also been times I've run just to spend time with my closest friends. For a lot of people, physical exercise in general is a safe place to come back to life in a sense. Even if I haven't slept much, or am in a bad mood, I always come out of a run feeling better about the day then before.
