Grayson Plummer: In Class Reading: Journal Entry #10- The Epic of Gilgamesh

On 2/15, we looked at the Epic of Gilgamesh discussing his story and relation to mortality vs immortality. These stories describe his journey following the death of his friend Enkidu, where he then sets out on a journey to seek eternal life, hoping to evade his own mortality. In this story there is a polarity between mortals and immortals. In this discussion, we talked about how time is limited when you are flawed (a mortal) and throughout the story, he comes to understand that that immortality is not attainable for mortals and comes to accept his fate. I think all of this is very important, as we as mortals, have such limited time on earth to live, so we must not waste time on things that aren't important to us. I think a lesson Gilgamesh could've taken away from this is he shouldn't of wasted time trying to become immortal, and instead appreciated the time he has a mortal.
