Gabe Snyder Blog 8 - All Tomorrows (Outside Reading)

All Tomorrows is a speculative evolution novel written by C.M. Kösemen (under the pen name "Nemo Ramjet") that follows the history of the human race thousands upon millions of years into the future. The novel goes into great detail to discuss the evolution of humanity, starting with the expansion into mars, the war and evolution of the Martian and Earth peoples, their peace with each other, their colonization of the solar system and universe, and the eventual attack on humanity by the Qu, a superior species with evil intent that punishes humanity by genetically re-engineering them into a myriad of grotesque species, each with their own ironic flaw. The book then goes into a discussion of each of these species and their evolutions and eventual overtaking of the qu. The book ends with an alien reporter billions of years from the last point discussing the evolution of the human race, optimistically stating that we should "chase all tomorrows," a nice call-back to the title of the book.

This book, while grotesque, sad, and often times nightmarish in its story and artwork, remains a fantastic reminder of the persistence of humanity. The Qu, despite their evil ways, are still rebelled against in the end, and humanity and its descendants manage to thrive and make it past their flaws. One of the most inspiring of these post-human stories is the human descendants of the Colonials evolving into the Modular People; as the Colonials were genetically re-engineered to literally filter waste and live for extended periods of time, the best of the Colonials managed to merge into sentient "Modular People," who would help in creating a new human empire.
