Gabe Snyder Blog 14 - Death Note (Topic of my own choosing)
Death Note is a Japanese comic and animated television series following Light Yagami, a highly charming and intelligent high schooler/college student who finds a "death note," which allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes down. This results in his progression into a giver of "justice," with his motivation for using the death note being ridding the world of its worst criminals. Due to the suspicious nature of these deaths, a task force, headed by Yagami's father and with the help of super genius L, the killer of these criminals is dubbed "Kira," and Light, the real Kira, tries to evade being caught by the police for his crimes.
Death Note provides a strong amount of debate over ethics and morals, as Light's powers, while ridding the world of its worst scum, also allow him to be the judge of who lives and dies, fueling his ego. Additionally, Light spends a large sum of the series trying not to caught, and his main adversary is L, who constantly suspects him of being this mythical "Kira" figure. L, a renowned detective, often correctly suspects Light's antics being his, and the drama in the series follows an almost cat-and-mouse like chase of wits, morals, and judgement.
