Emma Scott: Kenotic Walking (outside reading)

Kenotic walking is different from mindfulness meditation. What is flow? Flow is a state of mind where someone can appreciate and focus on all things that encompass them, but the person is unable to completely stop and solely listen to what is around them. They must keep pace and movement throughout their walk. Is flow something that is inherited or is it something you can work at to improve? Different forms of hiking require different strengths and levels of awareness. A more intense and remote hiking journey requires a higher level of awareness for not only your surroundings, but your internal feelings and capabilities as a whole. A smaller scale hike with more familiar people results in getting a clear head, but not completely being able to dissociate because of the lingering problems that await. In order to walk on extreme trails much preparation and conditioning is needed, it is not something that can be accomplished in a week. How many people attempt to walk the Appalachian Trail each year?
