Emma Scott (In Class Reading)
This book discusses hiking long distances on the Appalachian Trail. There are many different reasons that people go to hike this trail whether it is because of the scenery, challenge, or opportunity to go on their own individual personal journey. While this book talks about positive things that can happen to people who go on to find themselves on this hike, I want to know are there any negative spiritual side effects? While the trail can bring healing to some, does it bring healing to all? What happens if the trail proves to be negative spiritually for someone? I could assume that possibly a negative side effect could potentially be the physical and unexpected challenges along the trail. There are many wild animals and weather conditions that could prove to be problematic for potential hikers on the Appalachian Trail.
I think that everyone will go on their internal journey one way or another. It does not have to be by doing something life changing by walking the Appalachian Trail, although that seems to provide many benefits for those that are capable of accomplishing that hike. By going on the hike this is when you would accept the call to adventure. The trail proves to be beneficial on many different levels on both the internal and external journey of a person.
