Amber Samsel: Second Self (Req. 1) - Blog 11

A while ago, we had a class discussion in which we determined that the second-self is not identical, but complementary to the primary. We used the Yin and Yang to represent that bond in which they balance each other out. I've always had this thought about if it is possible for every person on the planet to have a "twin." I don't mean actual twins who were born together- I mean two people who have never met, live across the world from each other, but they somehow have a similar personality. Would those people, our "twins," be the same as the second-self? Or would they not because we would be too similar? I think with using Gilgamesh and Enkidu, who we have determined to be second-selves, it seems like they are almost opposites with Gilgamesh being a hero and Enkidu being a wild man. They do not seem similar at all, but they are still second-selves? I suppose "complementary" also does not have to mean neither "similar" nor "different," but something that just works well with the primary. I would hope my second-self and I would get along.
