Amber Samsel: Outside Reading (Req. 2) - Blog 8
In class, we have been talking about different forms of love, and I recently started a book called "Haunting Adeline" by H. D. Carlton. It is a very ambitious novel that attempts to make love story out of a stalking situation. The main character is being stalked by this man she has never met before who wants to make her fall in love with him. I'm not bothered by it once I remember that it is fiction, but as I am reading I also wonder if what they have is truly love? Or is it just a form of Stockholm syndrome. Can someone truly feel love for someone that scares them? Affection and friendship don't seem to fit in this case, and neither does agape? There is definitely eros, but is it true or is it just the main character's brain trying to protect her from trauma by letting her think that it is love?
